@ImprovBoston Tweetup

After my last trip to Boston I am psyched to go back. Not only am I performing comedy on Saturday at ImprovBoston (7pm and 10pm) and maybe catching The Midnight Show Friday at Improv Asylum, but I’m teaching workshops Saturday and Sunday AND (Are you ready for the part in the film Blog Post where the Main Character references the title of the post) @B_Donnelly organized an ImprovBoston Tweetup on Saturday April 10th 5-7pm just because I was coming to town. What? AWESOME, I know.

Brian named the event Nerds and Birds. Follow the hashtag #twtzach

I’ll either talk about Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and how we use Improv Fundamentals to drive our Marketing and Social Media strategy for @DSIcomedy OR I’ll just have a dark Boston beer and do bits.

For those of you who didn’t catch my Boston Improv Festival post in September, I’m staying at the super-swanky Hotel Marlowe again (probably not in a Suite, but still pretty sweet). My own HTTM!

My CONFIRMED Boston Schedule

Saturday 12pm – 3pm: Improv Workshop, What Are You Laughing At?

Saturday 5pm – 7pm: ImprovBoston Tweetup, Nerds and Birds

Saturday 7pm: Zach Ward & Guests, ImprovBoston Studio

Saturday 10pm: Mainstage, ImprovBoston

Sunday 12pm – 3pm: Improv Workshop, You Had Me At YES!

Mention #twtzach and get 2 for 1 tickets to the Saturday 7pm show.

I’m excited to see Boston friends and improv students at the shows and at the Tweetup. Thanks to Deana and Will Luera at @ImprovBoston for the invitation to teach and play again, and Brian for organizing Nerds and Birds (and for trying to make me sound super important on BostonTweetup.com).

See you in Cambridge!

Gary Vaynerchuk Keynote

DAY FOUR (March 15th) of SXSW 2010 was AWESOME thanks to @garyvee. With Crush It, Bestseller for the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, Gary Vaynerchuk has inspired countless people to take control of what they do and reclaim PASSION. Now, Gary does not suggest you quit your job, although there seemed to be plenty of jokes about that — He just wants you to WORK HARD and create new opportunity.

The book encourages people to determine what truly makes them happy and monetize it online. It argues that because of recent social and technological trends the cost of producing content has been driven low enough that passion, knowledge, and effort, which the book calls “sweat equity”, are now all you need to build a brand and business. (source)

For 2010 Gary discusses his OBSESSION with the future of customer service.

A few great Vaynerchuk Keynote quotes

Caring and effort are massively underrated. You can’t scale authenticity.”

The reason we love our parents is simple. They loved us first. Every single company should take this advice. You have to do good first.”

“The second I make a decision, I’ve won. I’m never fearful of business ever, because once I’ve decided to do it, I’ve won. I’m addicted to the process.”

“Back in the day, it was hard to penetrate the market and have your voice heard, but now we ALL broadcast. Word of mouth works now, much more than ever.”

“Everyone online acts like a 19-year-old dude. Everyone is trying to close too fast. You need to give it a little time. It’s amazing what a soft sell can do.”

Gary Vaynerchuk ran an incredibly INTERACTIVE Keynote.

He spent most of the presentation answering questions from the audience. He was honest and direct and I am personally a HUGE fan of his sense of humor. Gary invites the crowd in, offline AND online, and he truly wants to connect with other people. I can say without hesitation that I want to be just like Gary. I don’t care about the Jets (or sports for that matter) but when it comes to our way of business, I LOVE THE GAME!

(Btw, I just lost the game. Rene did too.)

@SMCtriangle @DSIcomedy

I’m hosting the Triangle Social Media Club (@SMCTriangle) Meet-up Thursday at 7pm at my theater in #carrboro (DSI Comedy Theater). Do you hyphenate Meetup? I never want to, but I hate the dotted redline underneath correcting me every single time I write it. AHHHH! Now I’ve done both. But honestly, How many times do I write the words meet and up as a Noun? Anyway —

I’ve been asked to talk about how the basics of IMPROVISATION can help you understand the psychology behind the online AND offline networking aspect of social media and how to use COMEDY to create a character and brand that inspires community. Expect an opportunity to participate in (or sit back, drink, and watch) some fun games that might just help you think about your social media activity.

I am very proud of how my company has used Social Media to reach AND BUILD a community of fans online. We’ve been active on Flickr and Youtube forever and our staff regularly posts content on Facebook and Twitter — Btw, Thanks to Three Ships Media for the Social Media feature on DSI November 2009.

We recently pushed out a MercyCorps benefit for Haiti to raise $1345 ($655 short of our GOAL, if you’re feeling generous). You are? YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you for your donations AND RETWEETS.

DSI also started work today to secure a $35K support grant from Intuit — Our social networks helped us reach 17 unique recommendations in under 2 hours. Do you love DSI? TELL THE INTERNET.

“If you get it, share it.”

Awesome.
