Improv gets MADE

185 Reality Shows walk into a COMEDY THEATER

Reverse. In the Style of Cribs. Now in 30 seconds. HEY!

I’ve been asked to offer a comedy workshop and a private class for a local kid participating in the show MADE for MTV. Score one for improv. I’m looking forward to spreading the gospel and inspiring an entire family to play a little. One more “YES! AND…” closer to solving the creativity crisis

Danny McBride Q&A

Last year I was asked to moderate the Q&A with the cast of MacGruber (Dir. Jorma Taccone, Will Forte, Ryan Phillippe and John Solomon) after a screening at Varsity Theatre, an incredible opportunity and a rare privilege. Last week I was contacted to host a screening of Your Highness at NCSU, for NBC UNIVERSAL again, and to moderate the Q&A with Dir. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride. Now to breathe.

Admittedly, I can breathe easier since Natalie Portman won’t be there. I may not have been able to handle the Naboo Black Swan Baby Bump. No Zooey Deschanel; No James Franco either. So we focus our questions on the comedic geniuses behind Pineapple Express and Eastbound & Down’s Kenny Powers.

I say OUR questions because I’d love your help curating insightful comedy questions to kickoff the night.

You might have questions after the ‘Your Highness’ Trailer

I’m personally interested in Danny McBride‘s career trajectory after The Foot Fist Way and how he went from low-budget self-made comedy to working with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, writing and producing his own show (Eastbound & Down) for HBO with Gary Sanchez Productions in just 5 years.

I plan to ask David Gordon Green to compare his process working with actors in stoner adventure comedies like Your Highness and Pineapple Express with some of his more dramatic works. I’m also curious about his experience at the NC School of the Arts and what he thinks about Arts education.

(Details on location of the film screening and Q&A)

Leave your questions in the comments and I’ll make sure they get in.

HERE At #MaxFunCon

MaxFunCon

After a 9-hour travel day, I made it.

MaxFunCon

Organized and hosted by Jesse Thorn of The Sound of Young America, MaxFunCon runs at a UCLA Conference Resort at Lake Arrowhead, CA. Participants network and go to sessions on comedy, creativity and rockstar nerd-stuff, with a pretty sweet lineup of presenters including Maria Bamford, Jonathan Coulton, John Hodgman, Marc Maron, Jimmy Pardo and a bunch more AWESOME people.

I’m REALLY looking forward to the weekend. It was interesting to carpool from the airport in a car FULL of web developers and tech nerds. None of the passengers had been to MaxFunCon before but they were ALL buzzing about the conference “I heard it would be the time of my life” etc etc.

I’m excited to see the demographic breakdown of attendees. I’ll be offline for a couple days but next week should feature a bunch of posts about MFC 2010, to recap the conference and talk festival production.

Enjoy the weekend. Especially you, Mom.
