#SXSW Eve

sxsw-packing

In ONLY four short hours (a WHOLE Work Week’s Worth of time according to @tferriss — Say THAT three times fast) I’m heading to the airport with @jeffreylcohen for SXSW. I am excited to get back to Austin to play (READ: Austin, TX has an INCREDIBLE improv community) and soak up as much as I can from SXSW. Last year inspired me to continue pushing forward with programs at the theater and excited to develop my own personal brand (you know). I’m totally packed and ready.

Sneakers (x2)
Denim (x2)
Flip flops and socks (Outkast)
Boarding Pass
DSI Stickers (x500)
ZW Cards (x300)
Flipcam and Tripod plus Extra battery
Laptop supplies with powerstrip
My Awesome NEW phone
Surprise Gifts

Wait. One. Minute. Did I say I was ready? FUNNY! I’ve got 3 hours to blog, answer a dozen time-sensitive messages (since I’ll be on planes until Noon CST Thursday), and get some WAY overdue tax forms printed out and ready to be mailed. I should also shower. No shaving though, ZW Beard returns MARCH 2010.

Btw, You can follow the NC posse headed to Austin at #NCrulesSXSW.

THANK YOU to my gracious host family Asaf Ronen, Tom Booker & Dexter.

Expect constant updates.

@SMCtriangle @DSIcomedy

I’m hosting the Triangle Social Media Club (@SMCTriangle) Meet-up Thursday at 7pm at my theater in #carrboro (DSI Comedy Theater). Do you hyphenate Meetup? I never want to, but I hate the dotted redline underneath correcting me every single time I write it. AHHHH! Now I’ve done both. But honestly, How many times do I write the words meet and up as a Noun? Anyway —

I’ve been asked to talk about how the basics of IMPROVISATION can help you understand the psychology behind the online AND offline networking aspect of social media and how to use COMEDY to create a character and brand that inspires community. Expect an opportunity to participate in (or sit back, drink, and watch) some fun games that might just help you think about your social media activity.

I am very proud of how my company has used Social Media to reach AND BUILD a community of fans online. We’ve been active on Flickr and Youtube forever and our staff regularly posts content on Facebook and Twitter — Btw, Thanks to Three Ships Media for the Social Media feature on DSI November 2009.

We recently pushed out a MercyCorps benefit for Haiti to raise $1345 ($655 short of our GOAL, if you’re feeling generous). You are? YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you for your donations AND RETWEETS.

DSI also started work today to secure a $35K support grant from Intuit — Our social networks helped us reach 17 unique recommendations in under 2 hours. Do you love DSI? TELL THE INTERNET.

“If you get it, share it.”

Awesome.

Ignite Raleigh 2.0

I’ve been sidetracked preparing for my role as Santa earlier today (MERRY CHRISTMAS!) but earlier this week Wayne Sutton (SOCIAL MEDIA SANTA!) sent me a short and sweet, but AWESOME request, “Hello Zach, Ignite Raleigh 2 will be held on Wednesday March 3, 2010. Are you available to be the emcee again?” That message from Wayne was like a Christmas Miracle for the Triangle, not just because I was asked to emcee again (GET READY!) but because a date has been set for Ignite Raleigh VOLUME 2! w00t!

But, as for the request — My response, FIRE IT UP!
